Lorri Honeycutt: Summer Garden Party, Family Fun, Morning Dew Duties, The Lily, The Grape Escape

Location: Cafeteria
Underwriting Cost: $10,000

Laughter is the best medicine. This common saying is the exact philosophy behind Texas artist Lorri Honeycutt’s photographs.

“I have always thought a sense of humor is a gift,” Honeycutt wrote. “My goal is to make you think and then smile.”

Five pieces from her recognizable collection “Big World Photo” hang in the new Le Bonheur’s cafeteria. Honeycutt photographs miniature figurines posed in an interesting, clever position or environment. None of her work has been digitally altered.

For instance, one of her photographs at Le Bonheur, “The Grape Escape,” features tiny men picking a life-size grape from a bunch and hoisting it onto a miniature pick-up truck figurine.

Honeycutt hopes that her artwork will encourage others to take a closer look at the world around them. Living a full life requires that we keep our eyes open to new ideas with an appreciation of the world around us,” she says. “There are small treasures of happiness everywhere.”

“Family Fun” is another piece from Honeycutt’s collection that hangs in Le Bonheur. It depicts another tiny figurine riding a giant bottle rocket as a crowd cheers him on. Also in the cafeteria, “Morning Dew Duties,” “The Lily” and “Summer Garden Party” follow along the same theme of miniature characters in life-size environments. Her ironic photos beg a second glance from any passerby.

Honeycutt decided to pursue a career in photography in 2005 after a long career in the technology industry. The whole idea behind her work began with an accidental shot with her digital camera. Her commissioned pieces can be seen across the country in places like Hampton Hotels, Dunkin Donuts, Mellow Mushroom Restaurant, Pennsylvania Golf Resort, restaurants and golf courses. Honeycutt opened a gallery last year on the boardwalk at Carolina Beach, NC. A North Carolina native, she now resides in Austin, Texas.
