About Le Bonheur

Founded in 1952, Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center is the Mid-South's first and only comprehensive pediatric medical facility. Every year Le Bonheur treats 130,000 children from 47 states and many countries. Le Bonheur is home to one of the nation's 10 busiest pediatric emergency departments and hosts one of the largest pediatric surgical brain tumor programs.

Le Bonheur broke ground on the new 610,000 square foot, 12-story hospital in February. The project is the largest investment by a non- profit organization in a free-standing facility in Shelby County. The $327-million hospital has been designed around needs of children and their families. When it opens in 2010, the new Le Bonheur will double its current space for patient care, research and teaching.

The new hospital will include 255 beds and have dedicated units for pediatric intensive care, cardiovascular intensive care and neonatal intensive care. All patient rooms are private and designed to accommodate two parents. The facility will feature many play areas, a mini-movie theatre and a large parent resource center with access to learning materials, the Internet and patient educators.

Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center's efforts to care for the region's children extend beyond the walls of the hospital. Le Bonheur Community Outreach addresses the social, economic and environmental factors that threaten children's health and well-being across West Tennessee. Each year more than 500,000 children are touched by programs like Mobile Health, the Center for Children & Parents, Community HIV Network, Safe Kids Mid-South, Le Bonheur Early Intervention and Development and Therapy Outreach.
