Han joins Le Bonheur, focuses on pediatric obesity
Pediatric Endocrinologist Joan Han, MD, is director of the new Pediatric Obesity Program. She comes from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development at the National Institutes of Health.
Han has spent her career studying genetic determinants of obesity in the general population and in patients with rare disorders associated with obesity, such as Alström, Bardet-Biedl, Prader-Willi and WAGR/11p deletion syndromes.
The Pediatric Obesity Program includes a Healthy Lifestyle Clinic and Metabolic Research Center that will care for children who have health complications related to pediatric obesity. The clinic is expected to open Summer 2014. Han will also serve as associate professor of Pediatrics for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
Han trained at Harvard Medical School and the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. She also completed a Clinical Research Fellowship at Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville, FL and a Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD. Han is board certified in general pediatrics, pediatric endocrinology and obesity medicine.
