Get Tested Memphis

In honor of National HIV Testing Day, Le Bonheur is urging members of our community to go out and get tested for HIV, the virus than can lead to AIDS. No effective cure for HIV currently exists, but with proper treatment and medical care, HIV can be controlled.

We spoke with Lauren McCann, Le Bonheur’s director of community programs, about this year’s initiative to encourage more testing in Memphis, and why it’s important for the children we serve.

“Because Le Bonheur is dedicated to the health and well-being of children, it makes sense that we would put our attention to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in our region,” said McCann.

Per the CDC, Youth aged 13 to 24 accounted for more than 1 in 5 new HIV diagnoses in 2014.

Le Bonheur's Community HIV Network provides comprehensive, culturally sensitive care for families and individuals living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Working with other community and partner agencies, the network is improving the quality of life, increasing early detection and reducing infection rates in the Memphis area.  Services include HIV testing, post-test counseling and education, referrals to support services and medical care, transportation to medical and social service appointments, case management. We also provide outreach to our Spanish-speaking community.
