Roughly 10,000 cans were collected for Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center during the hospital’s recent aluminum can drive. All told, the drive raised 275 pounds of cans and 600 pounds of pop tabs. According to can drive coordinator Liz Salton, most of the donated cans came from the Nursing Administration Department at Le Bonheur. They delivered approximately 122 pounds of aluminum. D. Canale distributing company was also instrumental in conducting the drive. The company furnished the collection truck at no charge, donated aluminum cans, took the cans and tabs to the recycling center, and then unloaded them. “Without their help, the drive would not have gone as smoothly as it did,” Liz said. “They also offered great suggestions for the next drive.” Le Bonheur is currently working on a plan for an on-going aluminum can recycling program.
