The Ninth Annual Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center’s Radiothon with FM 100 raised $95,000 for the hospital August 2 and 3. Thanks to generous donations of individuals, organizations and corporations, the funds will be used to help improve healthcare for children across the region.
Close to 200 calls were received with donations from Shelby County, North Mississippi and East Arkansas. A pledge was even made by a truck driver passing through the area from Texas.
“We would especially like to thank the dedicated team from FM 100 who hosted this successful event,” said Meri Armour, president and chief executive officer, Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center. “We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to the many individuals who saw and responded to the need to keep Le Bonheur alive and well for all of the children in Memphis and our surrounding communities.”
More than 47 Methodist Le Bonheur Associates and family members volunteered to answer calls and take donor pledges over the two-day period.
The two-day event was filled with fun and excitement and a number of touching interviews were given by patients, families, physicians and nurses. Both Mid-South Therapy and Cathy Scuggs brought therapy dogs to interact with the children.
News Channel 3 meteorologist Jim Jaggers stopped by to promote “Go Jim Go,” a five-day bike ride in October to raise money for Le Bonheur. Miss Grace Gore, the current Miss Tennessee; Miss Memphis, Nicole Jordan; and Cordova’s Outstanding Teen, Hillary Reese participated in the event as well.
Presenting sponsors included Medtronic, Sona Med Spa and Sonic, and additional contributing organizations included Saturn, Smith & Nephew, Southern Securities Credit Union and Ultimate Car Wash. Medtronic was the phone bank sponsor.
