The Community HIV Network will offer an afternoon of free health screenings and family fun at the National Latino AIDS Awareness Day on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 2-6p.m. at El Mercadito, 3776 Ridgeway.
Free testing services including weight, height, cholesterol, blood pressure screenings and test for levels of iron, glucose and lead will be offered to adults and children.
Community HIV Network professionals will offer confidential HIV/AIDS testing to the Latino community. Those who are diagnosed with HIV or AIDS will be connected with counseling and other necessary resources.
The National Latino AIDS Awareness Day is also a day of fun for the family. The family friendly day will also have jumping activities for kids, free food and games. “While an event surrounded by HIV/AIDS awareness can seem daunting, we really want to promote awareness and support healthy lifestyles. Making healthy choices is a family activity. We want to give the Latino community the tools they need to grow healthy children,” said Mia Cotton, CHN.
The family friendly day will also have a Planet Jump for kids, free food, and games. The event is co-sponsored by Subway and Planet Jump. The Community HIV Network, a section of Le Bonheur Community Outreach, provides HIV prevention education and care programming to Memphis and local communities. Regardless of financial situation, clients seeking care are welcome. Services include medical care, prenatal care, health education, social work, consumer advocacy, transportation, HIV testing, access to HIV clinical trials and referrals to other services.
