Le Bonheur was the site of a Sept. 6 rally to support healthy children and families.
On Sept. 30 the federally funded State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) that provides health insurance coverage for more than 9 million children in the U.S. - known in Tennessee as CoverKids - will expire unless Congress reauthorizes and funds the vital program.
Political, religious and health leaders spoke at the event about the importance of reauthorizing the program. They included:
- State Representative and Children and Family Affairs Committee Chair John DeBerry (D- Memphis)
- Meri Amour, LeBonheur President and CEO
- Tony Morris, SCHIP Family Spokesperson
- Dr. Hank Herrod, The Urban Child Institute
- Rev. Johnny Jeffords, St. John's United Methodist Church
Along with Le Bonheur, the Children's Hospital Alliance of Tennessee, The Urban Child Institute and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation also hosted the event.
