Dr. Amy McGregor, a neurologist at Le Bonheur, is the author of a new book geared toward helping medical students and physicians pass their boards and in-service exams in neurology. Laughing Your Way to Passing the Neurology Boards! was based on her experiences studying for the neurology boards. McGregor suggests using mnemonics like "Brocas patients have few words like broke people have few dollars," when trying to remember Brocas aphasia. "I had some mnemonics I used when I was studying for the boards. I knew about the Laughing Your Way to Passing the Pediatrics Boards, so I approached editor Stu Silverstein," she said. McGregor says she wrote the 658-page book in her spare time during the last two years. She says she had a lot of help on the book from her colleagues at Le Bonheur. Nurse Jackie Brown did all the illustrations for the book. Dr. Vickie Brewer, a neuropsychologist, wrote a section about test-taking tips. Neurologist Dr. Fred Perkins wrote the foreword. McGregor's former assistant, Louise Story, helped with some of the diagrams. The book was reviewed by neurologists Dr. James Wheless, Dr. Dave Clarke and Dr. Masanori Igarashi, among others. If you're studying for Residency In-Service Training Exam (RITE) or the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certification exam, McGregor's tips include: start early, attend a review course and learn the mnemonics she suggests in the book. The book is published by Medhumor Medical Publications, LLC and edited by Stu Silverstein, M.D. For more information visit www.passtheboards.com.
