Wolf Cubs from Germantown United Methodist Church's Pack 64 started the new year by participating in an automotive safety patch program. They were the first Scouts from the Mid-South area to participate in and complete this national program, which is sponsored by Chevrolet, Safe Kids Worldwide and Cub Scouts of America. The January den meeting, themed "Cub Scout Car Show," was held at Chuck Hutton Chevrolet on Mt. Moriah Road, where the second grade students completed five interactive stations in order to finish the course and earn their Automotive Safety Patch. The program covered several aspects of safety in and around vehicles, including: -
Safety Belt Fit Test (proper safety belt and booster seat use) -
Spot the Tot (never play in or around vehicles) -
Never Leave Your Child Alone (dangers of being in a vehicle alone -
Preventing Trunk Entrapment and -
OnStar system and emergency preparedness. While the Automotive Safety Patch program is designed for Scouts, parents and siblings of the Scouts were also encouraged to participate and learn as a family. The meeting was hosted by Safe Kids Mid-South, headquartered at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center.
