Tips for a Successful Interview

Have a positive attitude. Even if it is your 10th interview, approach it with confidence and optimism.

Prepare for the interview. Learn about the position you for which you applied, the company/department and the products or services provided. Check local newspapers for articles. Review the company Web site for current events. Visit the local library for annual reports of publicly held companies.

Talk to others. Find someone who is familiar with the company / department that interests you. Ask questions about management style, employee satisfaction and policies that will impact you.

Dress appropriately. Even if you have to change clothes to attend the interview, it is better to dress formally until you have been given your dress code.

Always bring extra copies. You may meet several decision-makers and you want each of them to have a copy of your application and resume.

Send a thank you letter. Be sure to send a thank you letter to everyone you meet during your interview process. It doesn't matter if you send the note by U.S. Mail, e-mail or fax.

Practice answering questions. Practice with a family member, friend or in the mirror prior to the actual interview. Answer questions honestly and completely, but avoid rambling. Watch the interviewer for cues as to when you've said enough. Ask the interviewer to repeat the question if you are unsure what is being asked of you.

Exit the interview positively. Leave the interviewer with a firm handshake and a statement such as "I look forward to the opportunity to work with you in the near future" or " I would love to become a part of this great team."

Common interview questions:
