The University of Tennessee and Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center offer three PGY1 residency positions that train residents to function as competent, independent pharmacy practitioners. Residents are expected to: -
Display independent learning skills -
Utilize effective communication skills -
Provide pharmaceutical care to patients in a variety of patient care settings -
Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior -
Educate students and other healthcare professionals effectively -
Understand research methods and opportunities Residents receive a faculty appointment as in instructor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy. Upon completion of the program, residents display excellence as a clinician and educator. The specific program for each resident varies based upon his or her goals, interests and previous experience. However, all residents are required to complete rotations in core subject areas considered to be essential to the pharmacy practitioner in the pediatric setting. | Core Educational Experiences - Orientation

| Additional program requirements include participation in multi-disciplinary hospital committees, PALS certification, drug use evaluation, completion of a residency project, and manuscript preparation. Some weekend coverage for clinical and distributive services is required.
