The PGY2 Residency at The University of Tennessee and Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center offers advanced training in pediatric pharmacotherapy. Residents are expected to: -
Display independent learning skills -
Utilize effective communication skills -
Provide pharmaceutical care to patients in a variety of patient care settings -
Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior -
Educate students and other healthcare professionals effectively -
Understand research methods and opportunities -
Display leadership Residents receive a faculty appointment as an instructor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy. Upon completion of the program, residents display excellence as a clinician and educator. The PGY2 resident is expected to take a leadership role in all teaching exercises and may assist in the coordination of the pediatric and neonatal elective classes. The specific program for each resident varies based upon his or her goals, interests and previous experience. However, all residents are required to complete rotations in core subject areas considered to be essential to the pharmacy practitioner in the pediatric setting. | Core Educational Experiences - Orientation

| Focused experiences in academia and critical care are available. Additional program requirements include participation in multi-disciplinary hospital committees, PALS certification, drug use evaluation, completion of a residency project, and manuscript preparation. Some weekend coverage for clinical and distributive services is required.
