Halloween Safety

Follow these easy tips to keep you family safe and happy during the Halloween season.

  • Trick-or-treat early, while it is still daylight.
  • Have a partner or older child accompany youngsters. Stay in your own neighborhood.
  • Don’t cross the street when going house to house. Cross the street only at corners.
  • Parents should inspect all food given to children.
  • Throw away candy and food not commercially wrapped, or if wrapper appears to have been tampered with.
  • If food appears tampered with, contact the police.

Costumes should:

  1. Keep children warm and dry, in case the weather turns bad;
  2. Be short enough to avoid tripping while going up or down stairs;
  3. Include reflective tape if they are a dark color or if worn after sundown
  4. Masks should have large eye holes, allowing full vision, to prevent falls and other injuries.
  • When lighting pumpkins, use flashlights, not candles.
