Follow these easy tips to keep you family safe and happy during the Halloween season.
- Trick-or-treat early, while it is still daylight.
- Have a partner or older child accompany youngsters. Stay in your own neighborhood.
- Don’t cross the street when going house to house. Cross the street only at corners.
- Parents should inspect all food given to children.
- Throw away candy and food not commercially wrapped, or if wrapper appears to have been tampered with.
- If food appears tampered with, contact the police.
Costumes should:
- Keep children warm and dry, in case the weather turns bad;
- Be short enough to avoid tripping while going up or down stairs;
- Include reflective tape if they are a dark color or if worn after sundown
- Masks should have large eye holes, allowing full vision, to prevent falls and other injuries.
- When lighting pumpkins, use flashlights, not candles.
