Neurodiagnostics at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center:
Learn about the neurodiagnostic capabilities available at the foremost Mid-South Pediatric Center

What are neurodiagnostics?
Pediatric neurodiagnostic, or diagnostic neuroimaging, can help in the process of diagnosing neurological conditions and diseases. These tests provide vital information about the pediatric patient to his or her physician so that a clear and more accurate diagnosis can be made.

What types of neurodiagnostics are available at Le Bonheur?
The neurodiagnostic capabilities available at Le Bonheur include:

What is a CT scan?
A computed tomography (Cat Scan or CT Scan) is a kind of X-ray. The CT scanner takes pictures (scans) of body tissues.

What is an MRI?
An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan uses radio waves and a strong magnetic field to provide clear pictures of internal organs.

What is an EEG?
An EEG (electroencephalogram) records electrical activity in the brain. Electrodes, small plastic buttons that pick up brain activity, are painlessly stuck on the scalp. An EEG helps find areas of abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which may cause seizures.

What is an MEG?
A magnetoencephalogram (MEG) is a neuroimaging device that measures magnetic fields in the brain. Read more about Le Bonheur and MEG.

Where do these procedures take place?
