Pediatric and Adolescent Sleep Disorders Clinic
The Sleep Disorders Center is the only sleep center in the region dedicated to treating children from infancy to 18 years of age. The Sleep Disorders Center is also the only pediatric center in the Mid-south accredited by the the American Association of Sleep Disorders.
An estimated one to two percent of all children suffer from pediatric sleep disorders, but many go untreated for months, and sometimes years, resulting in serious physical or psychosocial problems. current diagnosis is difficult because pediatric patients often cannot report the symptoms, and parents misunderstand the condition. sleep disorders manifest themselves differently in children than in adults, and appropriate treatments differ as well.
Evaluations of a sleep disorder must include treatment in the context of the child's developmental stage. Careful evaluation and treatment can result in dramatic improvements or correction of sleep disorders for most children. Treatment may include medical, behavioral or surgical interventions. In addition, since parents serve as bridges to the patient, parent education is important.

The polysonography suite at the Sleep Disorders Center is equipped with 21-channel polygraph equipment and additional equipment for monitoring all sleep, respiratory and cardiac parameters. The center maintains a homelike environment conducive to monitor sleep on an inpatient or outpatient basis. Comfortable sleep accommodations are provided for one parent, and the child can bring books, stuffed animals, blankets or other familiar objects that are part of his or her usual bedtime routine.
