Center for Children & Parents

We are dedicated to providing services to children and families who are at risk for physical, psychological or developmental problems resulting from child abuse, neglect and other family crisis situations. Our vision is for every child in west Tennessee to grow up in a loving, nurturing home that is able to meet his or her physical, developmental, emotional and educational needs.

Our Programs

Clinical Services: multidisciplinary team offers comprehensive evaluations of families in which circumstances of child abuse and/or neglect are alleged.  We are licensed as an outpatient mental health center and we provide outpatient counseling and psychological evaluation of parents and children who are at risk for physical, psychological or developmental problems resulting from child abuse, neglect and other family crisis situations.

Healthy Families: a home-visitation program for first-time teen mothers designed to prevent child abuse and neglect and address issues related to teen pregnancy, parenting skills and healthy child growth and development.

Parenting After Divorce Education: educational program designed to teach effective parenting during the transitions of parental separation and divorce.

Parent Pathway: offers home-visitation services to families with newborns to promote positive parenting interaction and healthy child growth and development.

Teen Parent Conference: annual one-day conferences open to all teen parent in Memphis City Schools.  The purposes of the conference are to provide information related to childcare and parenting and to support young parents in their efforts to respond to the challenges of teen parenthood.

Teen Pregnancy Prevention: conducted at various schools and community organizations to teach teens how to handle curiosity about sex, how to make responsible choices, how to reject sexual advances, and how to maintain healthy relationships with the ultimate goal of sexual abstinence and preventing teen pregnancy.

The Fatherhood Program: provides services to fathers (or men in fathering roles) to maintain or regain custody of their children through three components: assessment, home visitation and group process.  Licensed counselors in The Fatherhood Program provide therapy and educational sessions to address issues that directly influence the father's ability to fulfill parental responsibilities. The Fatherhood Program also sponsors the Fatherhood Resource Library, a lending library of books, videos, DVDs, curriculum guides and other resources for professional individuals or agencies.
