Still in his mother’s womb, Tyree was diagnosed with spina bifida, a condition that caused him to be born with a portion of his spine outside his body. He underwent neurosurgery when he was only a day old. Five years later, Tyree now looks forward to going to Le Bonheur every Monday for his physical therapy. The skill of the surgical team at Le Bonheur and his continuing strength training have helped Tyree overcome enormous obstacles. When you get to know Tyree, you find out how much he likes Spiderman, Tom & Jerry, and riding his tricycle around outside. The staff of Le Bonheur knows a few other things about him. They know about his hydrocephalus, his allergy to latex and the way his medicine affects his balance. Le Bonheur takes care of Tyree so that all anyone else sees is a happy little boy who loves to run around when he isn’t drawing on any surface he can find. He’s learning to write his name now, and he goes back to the staff on the fifth floor that originally took care of him to show off what he’s learned. You can support Tyree and other kids who are saved by Le Bonheur by contributing to the Campaign to Build a New Le Bonheur.
