#Children's Hospitals Week 2018 Kicks Off

Published On 03/06/2018

To shine a light on the importance of children’s hospitals and how donations help kids get the best care when they need it, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital is pleased to participate in the the second annual #ChildrensHospitalsWeek, scheduled for March 5-11. Le Bonheur is one of 170 member Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) across North America participating in the week-long initiative.

Hunter Miller, age 12 from Tupelo, was selected to serve as the 2018 Champion representing Le Bonheur. He was treated at Le Bonheur for a brain tumor and has personally benefited from local donations to CMN Hospitals.
Being diagnosed with a brain tumor at age five only temporarily slowed Hunter down. He’s currently on the middle school teams in both of his favorite sports, basketball and baseball.

Not only is he an athlete, but he’s happy to share his unique story, explaining to peers why he has a scar on the back of his head and educating them about his brain tumor surgery.

His doctors hope that after six years of clear MRIs he’ll continue on tumor-free. And they have good reason to be optimistic with such an inspiring patient: they told his parents to expect a long road of recovery post surgery, but he surprised everyone by walking after a few short days of physical therapy.

The following activities encourage support for children’s hospitals, March 5-11:

  • Tune in to a Facebook Live-athon Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. (EST): The exciting, live event will feature appearances by various celebrities, inspiring kids who represent the 10 million kids treated annually at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada. Catch the action at Facebook.com/CMNHospitalal.
  • Participate in the #ChildrensHospitalsWeek bandage campaign on social media: Sport a bandage and write on it the name of a child who has benefitted from a children’s hospital, take a photo and share it with #ChildrensHospitalsWeek.
  • Join the Twitch stream for Extra Life United from Thursday, March 8 – Saturday, March 10:
Charity gamers from all over the world join together at Extra Life United to learn how to make a big impact on children’s hospitals through gaming. Participants attend panels and workshops and game in a tournament to unlock donations for local CMN Hospitals. The event will be broadcast live on Twitch. The Extra Life program has raised more than $40 million for CMN Hospitals since 2008.

Le Bonheur treats children each year through community programs, regional clinics and a 255 bed state-of-the-art hospital.
