Rehabilitation and Therapy Services
Injury and illness can be devastating to children, interrupting their physical, educational, emotional and social development. In addition, some children are born with conditions affecting their physical, mental and social well-being. Rehabilitation helps children enhance their abilities and learn to lead more independent lives.
Le Bonheur’s Rehabilitation therapists take a team approach when caring for our patients, collaborating with each other, family members and patients to develop a comprehensive plan of care that maximizes the patient’s functional independence. Our staff offers a variety of services, including:
- Physical therapy focusing on either achieving or returning the child to the highest level of motor functioning possible.
- Occupational therapy focusing on physical, cognitive and perceptual disabilities that influence the child's ability to perform functional tasks.
- Speech-language pathology focusing on the patient's feeding skills, motor-speech skills and receptive and expressive language skills.
- Audiology services focusing on the prevention, identification, assessment and non-medical treatment of disorders of the hearing and balance system.
Referral Process
All outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech services require a referral from the primary care physician or pediatrician. In addition to a physician referral for therapy, outpatient speech services require the result of a hearing screening within the past six months to eliminate a hearing disorder as a contributing factor. The hearing screen requires a separate physician referral and can be scheduled the same day as the speech evaluation. For additional questions regarding therapy services, the referral process or insurance, please contact Le Bonheur Rehabilitation at 901-287-4300.
All outpatient audiology services require a referral from either a primary care physician or an otolaryngologists. For additional information or questions regarding audiology services, please call the Audiology Department at 901-287-5141.
