Pediatric General Surgery
Surgery for kids is different than surgery for adults. From their growing bodies to the way they react to anesthesia, it matters that your child’s surgeon understands the differences. That’s why all of our surgeons are board-certified in pediatric surgery and our anesthesiologists all have special pediatric training.

Why Choose Le Bonheur for Your Child’s Surgery?
Our surgeons are all board-certified and fellowship trained in pediatric general surgery. They operate only on kids and have more experience working with kids and families than any other surgeons in the region. Our surgeons also collaborate with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and perform many surgical procedures in conjunction with St. Jude specialists. Our specialists contribute to the advancement of pediatric surgery by publishing research on improving care.
We are the only hospital in our area to offer a comprehensive pediatric general surgery program including surgeons, anesthesiologists and specialized nurses and staff dedicated to the care of infants and children. We also have a full staff of dietitians, child life specialists, and therapists to support you and your child.
We do more minimally invasive surgeries on children for a broader range of conditions than any institution in our region. Our surgeons use minimally invasive techniques when appropriate, which mean less pain and quicker recoveries for your child.
As an accredited ACS Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, our specialists are available 24-hours a day to diagnose, consult and treat childhood illnesses and injuries. This also means that we are always prepared to treat even the most critically ill children.
Sometimes it takes more than a great surgical team for children to be comfortable. Our care includes child life specialists, a special pre-operative (before surgery) teaching program and Bunny Lane, where your child can pick out a toy before surgery.
We know that your child’s surgery can be stressful. So we make sure to keep you informed every step of the way. For more information on how we partner with families, visit Families as Partners. Parent participation is important. We encourage parents to be with their children while they are being put to sleep. Our goal is to reduce stress and anxiety for children who receive anesthesia for any procedure.
