Tetrology of Fallot (TOF) Repair
Tetrology of Fallot (TOF) is a complex, serious heart defect present at birth. TOF involves four heart defects that change the flow of blood through the heart. Surgical intervention is necessary in almost all cases. From January 2014 to December 2017, children treated at Le Bonheur for TOF repair had about a 100 percent survival rate.
Why this is important: Transparency in reporting surgical outcomes is necessary to help parents make informed decisions about their child’s care.
Le Bonheur’s Heart Institute measures quality using data compiled by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, or STS. STS gathers data from other top pediatric heart programs in the country, and publishes that information twice a year. This information helps us benchmark ourselves among other top pediatric heart programs.
