Talati named 2017 Educator of the Year

Ajay Talati, MD, is recognized as Educator of the Year for 2017 by the Southern Society for Pediatric Research. He will be receiving the award at the 2017 Annual Southern Regional meetings in New Orleans in February.

Team significantly reduces CLABSI

Le Bonheur’s neonatal team has had zero Central Line-associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI) since October 2015.

Research and publications

  • Faculty are involved in several clinical research projects including use of probiotics in very low birth weight infants to prevent necrotizing enterocolitis, comparison of intravenous Tylenol with indomethacin for closure of patent ductus arteriosus and— in a clinical trial along with researchers from Stanford—looking at novel interventions to reduce incidence of neonatal abstinence syndrome after maternal opioid use in pregnancy.
  • Ramasubbareddy Dhanireddy, MD, and colleagues are also involved in exploring the genetic basis of neonatal abstinence syndrome through the recently established Center of Excellence for Addiction Medicine at University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
  • The Neonatology team has published 13 peer-reviewed publications in 2016 and presented 15 abstracts at national and regional meetings.
