Be Proud! Be Responsible! Memphis! is a teen pregnancy prevention program that collaborates with community centers, schools and churches. The curriculum, developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is designed to empower teenagers to develop a sense of pride, self-confidence and self-respect through sexual disease education, safe-sex practices and life skills-building activities. New models include teen dating violence and LGBTQ issues.
The intervention includes six hours of age-appropriate interactive instruction and discussion for 13- to 18-year-old adolescents -- both male and female. Session (offered in a variety of settings) include:
- Introduction to HIV/AIDS
- Building Knowledge about HIV/AIDS
- Understanding Vulnerability to HIV Infection
- Attitudes and Beliefs about HIV, AIDS and Safe Sex
- Building Condom Use Skills
- Building Negotiation and Refusal Skills
