This week is National Teen Driver Safety Week – an effort to educate teens and parents about safe driving practices. This year's theme is It Takes Two: Shared Expectations for Teens and Parents for Driving. We have a few resources we want to share with you.

  • First, Bridgestone is hosting a Teens Drive Smart driving experience at the Landers Center in DeSoto County Oct. 26 and 27. The free driving clinic will simulate real life situations with classroom instruction and hand-on driving exercises.

  • Second, we wanted to share a great resource from our friends at Safe Kids, a global effort to keep kids safe. is a free program that creates a conversation with parents and teens about being a passenger and then driver. Both the parent and the teen can register on this site to access resources for establishing a teen driving plan.

  • Third, our friends at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute have conducted extensive research on the topic of teen driving. They’ve created resources for parents, teens, educators and policy makers. One of the great things they have on their site is a section on parenting a new driver. You can set up a driving log, learn how to teach while you’re driving and even how to choose a car.
