The paintings and sculptures in Lisa Jennings’ recent body of work so impressed Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital president Meri Armour that she picked two of her personal favorites for the new hospital.

“The Offering,” a sculpted form with outstretched arms, and “Dawn,” a textural landscape, were placed in the first floor board room.

“It’s so honoring to be a part of the collection at Le Bonheur” said Jennings. “It took me by surprise when my work was chosen. I feel blessed and grateful to be able to be where I am today.”

Jennings left a management job in the printing industry in her 30s to pursue her dreams. She mentored under master artist and husband Anton Weiss, and has been working as a professional in the field for 15 years. Jennings work can be found in many private collections as well as in the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville and the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. Jennings is represented by L.Ross Gallery and Leiper’s Creek Gallery in her hometown near Nashville.

Gathering inspiration from nature, Jennings hunts in the woodland streams of Tennessee and Arkansas for roots, rocks and shells to use in her paintings and sculptures. Her organic art-making process involves sculpting found materials and covering them with layers of handmade paper and paints.

Jennings’ spiritual approach to artwork influences her unique creations. She said she hopes the ethereal feel in her works positively affects the viewers at Le Bonheur Children’s.

“Art creates such a joy in the body; it can take the mind away from pain,” said Jennings. “That in itself creates healing.”
