The Le Bonheur Children's Hospital Public Quality Report shows the performance of our hospital on several nationally recognized quality indicators important to children’s healthcare. We believe in being transparent, open, and honest about the quality of care we provide our patients and our efforts to continuously improve that care.
These quality indicators represent issues of concern to children’s hospitals across the nation. We have provided information to assist you in understanding what these quality indicators mean and why they are important to you.
Over time, this quality report will grow. We will report more measures regarding the quality of care we provide. We will not decide what to report based on how well or how poorly we perform. Our goal is to provide you with accurate information about the care we provide and to keep our hospital, doctors, and nurses accountable to you, our patients and families. Central Line Infections
A Central venous line blood stream infection (CVL BSI) is a serious infection that occurs when germs enter a patient's bloodstream from outside the body through the central line.
Hand Hygiene Compliance
Hand hygiene compliance is a measure of how often health care workers clean their hands when they should.

The Leapfrog Hospital Survey is a national, evidence-based survey of hospital safety, quality, and efficiency.
Medical Response Team Volume (MRT)
Medical Response Teams (MRT) are groups of specially-trained health care workers who respond to requests for additional assistance.
Surgical Site Infections
A surgical site infection is an infection that a patient gets as a consequence of a surgical procedure.
Ventilator Associated Pneumonia
A ventilator acquired pneumonia is a lung infection or pneumonia that develops in a patient who is on a ventilator.
7-Day Readmissions
A readmission occurs when a patient returns to the hospital within seven days of being discharged.
Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI)
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection of the urinary system, including the bladder and kidneys. A UTI related to the use of bladder catheters while in the hospital is a catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI).

Patient Experience is defined by the ratings from patients and families about the overall quality of care and services provided by the hospital and healthcare providers. The score is the reflection of patient’s and families’ overall experience during their hospital stay.

Validity of Data
Our Quality Indicators allow us to reference data for improvement and standardization of practices that result in the superior quality of care and customer service we give each patient. We strive to report accurate and honest information about the quality of care we provide at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. We have 7 Associates that abstract information for 5 hospitals. Our abstractors attend abstraction clinics so they will be up to date on the most current abstraction rules. Our abstracted information is entered into a computerized system that checks the information for completeness and accuracy. Each missed opportunity is reviewed by our Clinical Decision Support department and all corrections are made before the data is submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) or The Joint Commission.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) perform an independent check of our data validity. Each quarter an independent audit is performed on information that has been submitted to CMS. These audits are performed by people that are not associated with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. They review several hundred different data elements to see how many times our answers match theirs. CMS considers a passing grade to be anything over 80%.
Quality and Safety Innovation Grants
The Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital Quality and Safety Innovation Grants will allow employees and physicians to apply for grants to fund projects that can improve our quality of care.
We know that safety and quality are foundational to who we are, and that we owe it to children to find better ways to serve them. The grants will be funded from Le Bonheur’s endowment. We’re excited to be able to offer this program to foster ingenuity, innovation and new ideas.
