Outcomes and Volumes

badge 1

At Le Bonheur Children’s, we measure and track our treatment to improve the care we offer families – and to provide a greater level of transparency about our program.

We use this information to re-evaluate our treatments and find ways to get better. We hope you will use it to make better decisions about your child’s care.

Le Bonheur's Heart Institute measures quality using data compiled by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, or STS. STS compiles data from other top pediatric heart programs in the country, and publishes that information twice a year. We use this information to help us benchmark ourselves among other top pediatric heart programs.

Outcomes

Survival Rates by Procedure

The average survival rates for the majority of heart surgeries at Le Bonheur are higher than the national average – especially in the most complex like the Norwood procedure. Compare Le Bonheur's survival rates to the national average by type of procedure:

At Le Bonheur, we perform a wide range of heart surgeries on newborns, infants, children and adults. Reporting our outcomes helps parents make better decisions about their child’s care and allows us to evaluate our treatments and how we care for children.

Operative Survival by STAT Category

The Heart Institute measures quality using data compiled by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons’ (STS) National Congenital Heart Surgery database. STS compiles data from other top pediatric heart programs and publishes that information twice a year.

Why this is important: Le Bonheur uses the database to benchmark itself against regional benchmarks and national standards and improve the care it offers.

Volumes

Why this is important: This graph shows the number of surgeries we do each year. We all want experienced doctors to care for our children. Our volumes show that our heart team is experienced.

Catheterization Cases

Why this is important: At Le Bonheur, we perform a wide range of heart surgeries on neonates, infants, children and adults. Reporting our volumes shows our team’s experience with complex treatments for congenital heart disease.
