Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital is a Magnet-designated facility and recognized among the nation’s “Best Children’s Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report for 13 consecutive years. Our hospital is home to 20 state-of-the-art operating rooms, where our expert teams perform approximately 10,000 surgical cases for children annually. As the only American College of Surgeons (ACS) Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in the region, you will be exposed to a variety of cases here at Le Bonheur.

Jacob Howell, CST

As a Surgical Technologist, you play a crucial role in the operating room by assisting surgeons and other medical professionals during surgical procedures. Your responsibilities revolve around ensuring the smooth flow of surgical operations and maintaining a sterile environment. Here's a detailed breakdown of your job duties:

  • Set up surgical instruments, equipment and sterile drapes according to the specific procedure.
  • Verify the functionality of equipment and ensure the availability of necessary supplies.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons during procedures.
  • Anticipate the needs of surgeons to facilitate efficient and effective surgeries.  
  • Create and maintain a sterile environment in the operating room.
  • Facilitates the use of various types of operating room technology, including surgical robots, imaging systems and monitoring devices.
  • Stay updated on advancements in surgical technology and incorporate them into practice when appropriate.
  • Work closely with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists and other health care professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
