Dr. Barnes has also been named the inaugural Urban Child Institute (UCI) Endowed Chair of Excellence for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Barnes is the first recipient of the endowed chair, Barnes will serve as the director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UT Health Science Center.

The ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® is the highest credential a healthcare organization can achieve. A Magnet designation indicates to patients and the public that these organizations have met the most stringent, evidence-based standards of nursing excellence in patient care delivery. Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital was designated as a Magnet organization in 2016 and 2021 by the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® and they are now applying for redesignation.

After 40 years of practice as a pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Jeffrey Towbin will retire from Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) on June 30, 2025.
