Your Bill

Your Bill

We understand that this is a difficult and stressful time for your family. Many families worry about health care costs, especially if they do not know what insurance will cover or if they do not have insurance. While health care is costly, no child is ever denied or delayed care based on ability to pay.

If you have health insurance, it usually pays at least part of your child’s medical costs. If you don't have insurance or need help with costs that aren't covered, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare offers discounts and payment plans to assist you.  We want you to understand your options and are here to help.

Le Bonheur will file your insurance claims for you. Once the insurance company has paid its part of the hospital bill, you will be billed for the remaining portion. You may receive bills from a variety of doctors or medical groups. The Patient Financial Services Department is here to help you understand your hospital bills. Please contact us with any questions or to arrange payment on your account. We accept cash, check, MasterCard, Visa and Discover. We are able to take your payment with a credit card over the phone. If you have any questions, please call 901-516-1000; hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Click here to pay your bill online.

Price Estimation

The price estimator is a tool that provides patients with an accurate estimate of their financial responsibility for desired medical services. Estimated costs can be calculated for both insured and uninsured patients.

The price estimator utilizes common procedures provided by Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH), your insurance carrier’s contracted rates and your real-time insurance benefits to provide a good faith estimate of out-of-pocket expenses.

Complications, add-on services and final diagnosis, all which can impact the patient responsibility, cannot be predicted by the price estimator.

Understanding Insurance Terms

If you are coming to the hospital for a planned procedure or test, we may call you at home before you arrive to explain your costs to you and arrange payment.  Since all insurance plans are different, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare researches the coverage and benefits for each patient for each visit to the hospital. Here are a few insurance terms you may hear while in the hospital:

Co-Payment – or co-pay, is the set amount of money you pay for a medical service or medication. Each insurance plan establishes these fees up front and they are often printed on your health insurance card.   Examples: Emergency Room services often have a co-payment of $50 or more. If your child is admitted to the hospital, you may have a daily co-pay or a co-pay for his/her entire hospital stay.

Deductible – A set amount of money that you must pay each year before the insurance company begins to pay for care. The health care deductible is very similar to your auto insurance deductible. Deductible amounts vary by plan and can be separated into individual or family deductibles.

Co-Insurance – Co-insurance is the part of the bill that you must pay after you've met the deductible. Example: Your insurance policy calls for a 30% co-insurance. If the medical procedure is $1,000, the insurance plan will pay $700 and you are responsible for $300 (assuming your deductible has been met).

Out-of-Pocket Maximum – The dollar limit of how much you are required to pay out-of-pocket during the year.  Beware that visits to the Emergency Room or to your child’s doctor’s office, and prescription co-pays are usually not included in the out-of-pocket maximum.  You may still be required to pay those costs after you reach the out-of-pocket maximum. Example: An out-of-pocket expense limit might be $5,000, which means once a patient has paid $5,000, he or she may not have to pay for anything for the rest of the year.

Call your insurance company or 901-516-1000 for more specific details about your payment options.
