Le Bonheur Children's Breaks Ground on Front Garden

Friday, October 25, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital will break ground on Le Bonheur Green, an interactive outdoor space for children and families. Le Bonheur Green will fill the nearly 2-acre lawn facing Adams Avenue. The project was designed by Blair Parker Design, landscape architects. Rose Construction will serve as a contractor.SeedofHope6

Le Bonheur Green is designed to bring the therapeutic powers of nature – the sights, sounds and smells of the outdoors - to families and give them a place to gather to relax, share life and  escape the emotional challenges of hospitalization.

Le Bonheur Green design includes a prayer labyrinth, which is an ancient practice used to facilitate prayer, meditation and spiritual transformation. A walking path in the shape of the heart is a nod to the Le Bonheur heart. A front porch gathering space encourages families to gather and an open green leaves space for children to run and play.

“Our families have long needed an outdoor green space to provide the kind of natural healing and respite simply not available inside,” said Le Bonheur President Michael Wiggins. “Le Bonheur Green is an extension of the healing that happens inside the hospital.  I’m thrilled we’re soon to break ground on this project, made possible by the generosity of our donors.”

The $3 million project will be funded by donations. Giving opportunities to Le Bonheur Green include:

  • Make a donation in honor or memory of a loved one
  • Celebrate milestones of your life with a gift
  • Honor a doctor, nurse or caregiver
  • Set up a planned gift to sustain the garden for generations to come.
