At Le Bonheur, we have a Medical Response Team (MRT) in place. This group of medical professionals can be called by parents or staff to provide immediate attention when a patient’s condition suddenly changes.
If a parent or staff member feels like the child’s condition needs immediate attention, a special phone number can be called and a specialized medical team will respond to check on the child. This is similar to calling 911. Some emergencies that may require a Medical Response Team may include:
- A “gut feeling” that something is wrong
- A significant change in the child’s condition
- The child is not “acting” right
- The child is not breathing right
Why Medical Response Teams are important
Medical Response Teams:
- provide additional support to parents and staff in the hospital outside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
- include highly trained individuals who can reduce uncertainty and delay in medical emergencies.
- have the ability to bring life-saving care to the bedside within minutes.
Measuring MRT use helps us
- Understand how well we are recognizing changes in a patient’s condition
- Analyze how we are utilizing our Medical Response Teams
- Track the contributions to improving care. For instance, if the hospital reduces the number of patients that have a code outside the ICU, then at the same time the number of Medical Response Teams should increase.
