Nurses every day go above and beyond to not only provide patients and families with excellence in clinical care but also compassion. In 1999, the DAISY Foundation was founded to honor the nurses who cared for J. Patrick Barnes during his illness. The DAISY Foundation awards nurses who demonstrate exceptional skills and compassion in their work, and it aims to recognize the profound impact nurses have on patients and their families. Le Bonheur Children's Hospital is a proud participant in this program.
Who Is Eligible?
Any registered nurse at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital can be nominated for a DAISY Award
How are Nurses Nominated for The DAISY Award?
Nurses can be nominated by anyone. In the healthcare setting, nominations come from patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, or staff who experience or observe extraordinarily compassionate care being provided by a nurse.

What Does the DAISY Honoree Receive?
After the DAISY Honoree has been selected, a celebration is planned. The Honoree’s peers and nursing leaders plan a celebration and parade on the unit floor where they work. At the presentation, the Honoree receives a certificate in a DAISY portfolio, a beautiful hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, an Honoree pin, a copy of their nomination and cinnamon rolls to share with their team.
