Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive brain mapping tool our Le Bonheur physicians use to prepare for your child’s surgery. Le Bonheur is one of the first children’s hospitals to use this brain mapping technology in clinical care and research.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation allows our experts to accurately determine the location of vital functions such as limb movement and speech production in the individual brain.

Doctors use of the Transcranial magnetic stimulation tool on a patient, it is a comfortable process for children where they are awake and sit in what looks like a dental chair during the test.

The technology uses your child’s MRI and/or functional MRI (fMRI) to direct the transcranial magnetic stimulation.

The process is comfortable for children. They are awake and sit in what looks like a dental chair during the test.

We use the Nexstim Navigated Brain Stimulation (NBS) system, which was funded by the Shainberg Neuroscience Research Fund at Le Bonheur.
